At its core, the Green Monk is a deeply contemplative figure—serious, meditative, and filled with reverence—yet also fallible and sometimes humorously grumpy. Through his eyes, we explore a vibrant cult of pistachio-worshipping monks, their rituals, festivals, and the complex social dramas that unfold, such as monks succumbing to the temptations of pistachio wine or moral compromises. A memorable event within the story is the visit of a high-ranking religious figure who becomes entranced by the pistachio’s power, highlighting the tension between faith and obsession.
The visual aspect was crafted using Midjourney AI, generating evocative scenes of the Green Monk’s temple, village life, and ritual celebrations. To overcome AI’s unpredictability, the narrative itself controls and adapts to the images—as if the Green Monk were posting and commenting on his own social media feed, blending spirituality, humor, and mystery in bite-sized stories.
This project culminated in a printed art book gifted to my pistachio-loving brother, bringing together visual art, storytelling, and digital culture into a singular, immersive experience that invites reflection on devotion, imperfection, and the subtle poetry found in the everyday.
